Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy (LCNP) played a key role in the 1996 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice which held unanimously that there exists an obligation to negotiate in good faith for the total abolition of nuclear weapons. The forum (register here) will examine the current state of the law on nuclear weapons and what needs to be done to bring the obligation to fruition.

The reception will celebrate the contributions of Peter Weiss to nuclear disarmament and the international rule of law and raise funds for the future work of LCNP. A distinguished human rights and international lawyer, Peter retired in 2013 as President of LCNP, having served in that position since he co-founded the organization in 1981.

Reserve your tickets now for the 6 pm reception (deliciously catered), or send a check to LCNP at the address below. $250 tax-deductible donation/$400 with spouse/partner. If you cannot attend, please consider making a contribution to honor Peter and support LCNP's future.

The forum is a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program co-presented by CUNY School of Law. 1.5 CLE credits in Professional Practice are available to New York State attorneys. Those seeking CLE credits must attend the entire presentation from 4-5:30pm, as CLE regulations prohibit partial CLE credit. Attorneys wishing CLE credits are requested to register in advance and pay $15 for printed materials. The materials fee will be waived in the event of financial hardship.

For more information, contact LCNP Executive Director John Burroughs at johnburroughs@lcnp.org or (212) 818-1861.
