The Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy expresses concern regarding the basing of F-15EX Eagle II fighter aircraft at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan. While publicly available government announcements do not explicitly affirm that these aircrafts will be assigned a nuclear mission, it is undisputed that the F-15EX platform is technically capable of carrying the B61-12 guided nuclear bomb—whose variable yields range from approximately 0.3 to 360 kilotons, averaging around 50 kilotons, more than three times the yield of the U.S. weapon that destroyed Hiroshima.
